One call. Two possible outcomes.

More than “please leave a message”.

Watch the questions become an organised enquiry. Fictional example, not a real customer call or a guaranteed outcome.

Without AI answering

You are still under the sink.

The phone rings. You cannot reach it.

A caller might leave voicemail—or hang up without explaining the job. A missed call is not necessarily lost business.

Keep working. Come back to an enquiry you can act on.

The receptionist asks follow-up questions using your business instructions. Name and callback number are saved separately; job details are organised within the message. This illustration is not a screenshot of separate CRM fields. It cannot guarantee a caller will supply every detail.

  1. The receptionist answers, identifies itself as AI and gives the recording notice.
  2. Caller: “Do you repair drains?” Receptionist: “We don’t do drains. We do central heating, repair or replace radiators and boilers, and general domestic plumbing. Is there any other plumbing or heating work you need help with?”
  3. Caller: “Actually, yes—a radiator needs replacing. It’s planned work, not an emergency.”
  4. The receptionist asks for the name, callback number and full job postcode. Alex supplies “0161 496 0123” and “M20 0ZZ” (fictional example data).
  5. The receptionist reads the number back and confirms the postcode and enquiry. Alex confirms and requests a callback after 4 pm; this is a preference, not a promised time.
  6. The enquiry is saved only after the caller confirms and the service reports a successful save. The receptionist says goodbye.
  7. An email contains the structured enquiry summary. The plumber’s email app can show a notification if enabled. The business decides what to do next.

Configured for your business

Ask. Clarify. Confirm.

01

Ask useful questions

Tell the receptionist which job details matter: type of work, location, urgency and preferred callback time.

02

Answer from your information

Supply your opening hours, service area and FAQs. When it does not know, it can take a question instead of inventing an answer.

03

Make the callback useful

Get a caller-confirmed name, callback number and enquiry summary. You still decide whether to quote, schedule or accept the work.

Start small. Test your own business.

Try the receptionist online first.

Create an account or log in, request trial access, then prepare your business details. Use the restricted text tester before separately activating telephone answering.

Know the limits before you start

  • Eligible accounts need an owned, active Memorable Numbers number and a verified caller-message email.
  • Your account setup shows the available plan, trial duration, included minutes and per-call limits before you activate telephone answering.
  • Usage and availability controls can end trial access earlier. Check the effective limits shown in your account.
  • Voicemail fallback is required. No automatic paid conversion. Number rental and call charges are separate; this is not the FREE 0330 number promotion.

A few things worth knowing

Is this a booking or emergency dispatch service?

No. It captures requests and answers supplied business information. It cannot confirm appointments, quote unapproved prices, take payments, transfer calls or dispatch emergency help. Your team remains responsible for following up.

Do I need to move my existing number?

The trial needs an active number in your Memorable Numbers account. Do not change your existing business routing until you have tested the setup. Existing-number forwarding or porting needs a separate compatibility and charges check.

Are calls recorded? Can I get a transcript?

AI receptionist calls are recorded for quality and diagnosing issues, with an opening notice and normal 30-day retention. Customer access is separately controlled. Requested transcripts may require a package or additional charge and are not included in the automatic trial.

Is every enquiry guaranteed to be complete?

No. Callers can decline to give details or end a call early, and AI can make mistakes. Configure the questions, test typical calls and review the results. Callback preferences are requests, not promised appointments.
